Drager offer the X-Zone 5500 for area monitoring applications. There are two models available – diffusion and a pumped version. An X-am 5000, 5100 or 5600 portable multi gas detector is required to use the X-Zone 5500. The diffusion model comes with a diffusion cap and the pumped version comes with both a pump cap and a diffusion cap.
When used in combination with the above gas detectors, the X-Zone is capable of measuring up to six gases and can be used in various applications. To show clear warnings of gas the area gas monitor has a 360° LED ring around the monitor. The LED ring will display as green when the atmosphere is free of gases. When gas is detected the colour will change to red and will clearly show that gas is present. An alarm sound will also ring at the presence of gas.
One of the main advantages of using Drager X-Zones as area monitors is their ability to create an interconnecting wireless fence line. Up to 25 of these monitors can connect to form a safety network for large-scale areas. Any X-Zone that detects hazardous toxic or combustible gases will transmit its alarm signal to all other connecting units. To identify the monitor that has detected the gas the LED ring will flash red, whereas the others will flash red and green
There are a number of accessories that are available for use with the Drager X-Zone 5500 area monitor. One of these is a ‘Switch On /Switch Off’ box – the Drager Switchbox. This increases worker safety during any external work in an Ex-zone 1 area. If the X-Zone alarms then the Switch Off box will automatically turn off the power supply within seconds.
Another accessory is the Drager X-Zone Com GSM-Module. This allows data, such as status requests or alerts, to be accessed wirelessly over a GSM network. Using a single X-Zone Com module up to 15 Drager X-Zones can be connected to a wireless alarmchain. Gas concentrations can be shared by test message, email and cloud using the X-Zone Com.
